🏁 Kartastrophe Cup – Test Race #1: We Survived Mobikart!

Lichtenberg, 22.08.2026 — The Kartastrophe Cup kicked off with its very first (very unofficial) test race at SMobikart Fun Racing GmbH's track in Lichtenberg, and we're happy to report: nobody crashed, nobody got disqualified, and only one of us showed up embarrassingly late. Full results below!

The Results 📋

Format was a good old-fashioned time-trial (best lap wins), and it was close at the top:

The headline story? Ryan and Bernhard finished just 23 milliseconds apart at the top — a gap so small you'd need a microscope and possibly a time-turner to split them. Ryan takes the bragging rights (for now). Bernhard also spotted something suspicious: almost everyone's fastest lap came in the final 3–6 rounds, as if the karts somehow got lighter as the session went on. 😅 Christopher had the sensible answer: he was stuck in traffic at the start, and by the end we'd all worked the track out. Or the karts are secretly sprinting. We'll say both.

Flexible Formats? Confirmed ✅

Good news for the league's future: we spoke to the track crew and — as long as we tell them at the briefing — we can run Mobikart sessions in pretty much any format we like. Start orders, timing, custom race structures, you name it. We just need to be organised getting drivers in and out of karts, and we can squeeze way more actual track time per session. One catch: they cap it at 8 karts per 25 minutes, so dreaming of three back-to-back 8-kart races in a 60-minute window is sadly a no-go.

Two Tempting Upgrades 🚀

The track teased us with two ways to go faster:

• Boost — short bursts of a 55 kph limit.

• Expert Mode — crack a lap under 25 seconds and the 55 kph limit becomes permanent. Nobody nailed the sub-25s lap this time (no boost in the session, boooo).

⚠️ The Safety Chat (Concerns & All)

Lots of enthusiasm after the flag dropped, but the debrief threw up some genuine concerns:

• Those sharp 90° metal angles on the armcos had a few of us a bit worried. Nobody got hurt, but it's early days — worth keeping an eye on.

• Overtaking is genuinely hard. With a 45 kph limiter, passing on the faster sections is basically impossible. Those who had no problem were passing much slower karts — if everyone's at a similar pace, getting past is... let's call it "spicy."

The Organisational Drama 🎭

In true inaugural-cup fashion, there was a little chaos: a pack of us showed up early, one of us hit the Ringbahn and arrived fashionably late (we're not naming names... okay it's Sourav), and anyone without a balaclava was sorted out by Ryan's two spares.
