Kartastrophe Cup finds a home

After a first test race, months of scouting and more than a few unanswered emails, the Kartastrophe Cup finally has a proper home. Season 1 will be raced at Berlin Kart (Werbellinstraße 50, 12053 Berlin).

Thanks, Erman

We spoke with Erman at Berlin Kart, who couldn't have been more welcoming — we're invited to organise our series there. The arrangement is refreshingly simple: we just need to tell them when we're coming and how many of us will be on the grid. And as a bonus, we've been given the green light to put a poster up at the track to promote the series and recruit new members.

For clarity: the Kartastrophe Cup is an independent event held at Berlin Kart. It isn't organised or officially endorsed by them — we're just very happy guests.

The Format: Qualifying + Race, in Rimo Karts

Each round runs:

  • 11 minutes qualifying — set your lap, sort the grid
  • 22 minutes race — wheel-to-wheel, for real

We'll be racing the Rimo karts, the faster of the two kart types available at Berlin Kart.

Why this format? Because it's Berlin Kart's standard race format. Running things the way the track already runs them keeps life simple for their staff, makes booking and running three rounds a smoother job for everyone, and is the least "we'd like something weird please" option available. That's exactly what we want for a first season.

Faster Karts, Safer Track

Honest comparison time. The karts at Berlin Kart are significantly faster and considerably more exciting than the ones we ran at Mobikart during our first test session.

Just as importantly: the track is significantly safer. Berlin Kart has proper barriers — not the nasty steel armco with right-angled corners sticking out into the racing line that had several of us worried during our Mobikart debrief. Our main safety concern from that evening simply doesn't exist here.

Season 1: Three Rounds

The current plan is an initial three-race season, at a total cost of €156 for the whole season.

Dates and qualifying times are still to be confirmed — keep an eye on the series news and the race schedule for updates.
